Brisbane Turf Club selects people for positions on the basis of merit and equity, that is, we select the best person for the job and all applicants for positions are treated fairly and equally. The following information is provided to ensure that all applicants clearly understand the overall selection process in order to maximise their potential for appointment.

When a position is advertised, that position has already been analysed and a list of its duties and selection criteria developed. This is the "position description" and you should acquire a copy of it as it sets out the main objectives of the position, the key responsibilities, essential skills, and/or desirable skills and selection criteria.

The selection criteria address the level of qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills and personal characteristics required to successfully fill the position. Weighing of the selection criteria will be determined before the selection process begins by considering each of the selection criteria and its overall importance to the position.

Your application for a position with Brisbane Turf Club must include the following:-

Covering Letter with your name, address, phone contact numbers and position applied for.
Brief summary of your employment history - previous positions and the major duties performed.
Details of your education and any qualifications you have. Name, title, address and phone number of three referees (work related where possible).
Address the selection criteria.

When addressing the selection criteria it is important that you demonstrate how you meet the requirements.

Note that a successful applicant does not need to meet all of the skills to apply for a position. They should, however, meet any skills that have been identified as essential.

Shortlisting of Applicants

Shortlisting of applicants occurs after the position closes and is based on assessing each application in relation to the selection criteria. Those applicants who have demonstrated in their application that they best meet the criteria will be invited to attend a selection interview.

Selection Interview

The selection methods used will always include a selection interview, but may also involve other skill based activities (i.e keyboard typing test). These methods are designed to gather relevant and factual information about job applicants.

Reference Checks

Reference checks are conducted for people who are in the final stages of selection. They are used to supplement the final selection decision by verifying that the information provided by the applicants is accurate. If necessary, you will be consulted in relation to the contacting of your referees.

Notification of Appointment

The successful applicant will be notified as soon as a decision is made. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by mail or email.

Vacancies close at 4.30pm on the advertised closing date. Receipt of your application will be acknowledged by mail. Late applications will not be accepted. All of the information collected about applications for positions is treated as confidential. Brisbane Turf Club complies with legislation relative to the Privacy Act.
